A Charting Tip from the Old Advance Man

Here’s a tip I picked up from Steven Blackwell the other night on Friday Night FileMaker Chat. FileMaker 11 doesn’t provide an obvious way to prevent a user from interacting with a chart in browse mode (e.g., copying, clicking on, dragging, or mousing over to view tooltips).

However, if you place a transparent “null” web viewer over the chart, all interaction will be blocked. Here’s how you configure a null web viewer — it couldn’t be much easier, you simply set everything to blank.

And of course you will want to make sure that the autosizing options are set the same for both the chart and the web viewer.

I can think of several projects where this is going to come in very handy.
